Almost the twin sister of the Eterna Kon Tiki Diver (Eterna and Porsche design belong to the same group), this diving watch with its imposing looks will accompany you in your extreme diving. Or more modestly, in your daily life...
A watch that shows “1000 meters” on the dial?
In order to test this, I decide to go to England, to the Mount Scafell Pike, which culminates at 978 meters.
It gives me so a 22-meter margin.
I confirm that the watch bears very well the altitude.
Back in Paris, I am told that it is 1000 meters deep !
It will be a lot more difficult to test.
But nothing stops me.
Saying that it is imposing is far beyond the reality : 46,8 mm x 17 mm !
Even around my Inuit lumberjack wrist (18,5 cm), it is impressive.
But we get used to it quickly.
Made up of two parts, which one of them revolves, the watch has a very modern and original design.
The cradle and the back of the casing are made of titanium ; the case is made of steel.
The blending of these 2 grey materials is gorgeous.
In order to handle the bezel (thus, allowing the seabed divers to know when they have to take out the egg from the pan), the casing has to be tip up to the front.
It remains in position with a 60° angle, but it can goes further (at the risk of marking the cradle at the level of the hinge).
So, what to say about this system ? Is it really useful or is it a widget?
For me, it is a widget. Original, very well designed and useful.
But other systems of bezel blocking exist, far easier.
Test in cold water
In order to test the resistance of the watch to coldness, I decide to give it a radical test : the watch inside of a bowl of water, put inside of the freezer for three hours.
The result is impressive : the watch resists very well.
It is hence ready to dive under glaciers (or Brittany in summer, which is quite the same regarding the temperatures).
It is made of a beautiful matt black, with big hands filled with Luminova.
The tiny date is anecdotal.
To have an idea of the readability under the water, nothing is better than an immersion inside of the bathtub, with all the lights switched off.
The indications are well readable (with an emphasis for the gradation from 0 to 15).
Nevertheless, the only drawback : the markers are all identical, which makes difficult to know where the 12 is.
The sapphire glass is treated anti-reflection on its double face.
The rubber strap is very nice to wear and is of very good quality : it does not risk suffering from repeated diving.
It is nevertheless better to adjust it with your authorized dealer, because it is not a simple thing to do it by yourself.
You have to use the scissors. But we do not really know where to cut. The two sides of the strap do not “behave” the same way.
And of course, no putting on weight !
As for resale, you are compelled to find a buyer with a thinner wrist than yours...
The folding buckle is quite practical, with its extension for wetsuit.
But it lacks security, because the buckle can open (too ?) easily.
The diving watches are like hummers in the city : most of them will not often see the seabeds...
Though, this Porsche Design Diver with its original looks seems indestructible.
And it will accompany you without any problems in your worst expeditions... as well as in the best ones !
The + :
- its stylized and original looks
- its finishing
- its readability
- its 1000 m resistance
The – :
- its too small date
- the way to adjust the strap
- the absence of a security system on the strap
- all the markers are identical
